Geisha Queen Variety
Gesha Queen is a natural mutation discovered by Luis Anibal Calderón at Villa Betulia in Acevedo, Huila. In 2017 he found one Gesha tree producing much larger and heavier cherries, so he isolated it and replanted its seeds. This selection became Gesha Queen, a distinct expression with plumper fruit that may deepen sweetness while keeping the floral and citrus elegance of traditional Gesha. The plants grow tall and show good tolerance to leaf rust, and the flavour often leans toward refined fruit and structured sweetness. This lot shows blackberries, tangerine, cardamom and toffee shaped by volcanic soil and high altitude.
Natural Process
Only the ripest cherries are hand picked and carefully sorted at Villa Betulia. After floating and removing defects, the whole cherries undergo a 45 hour aerobic fermentation following Cofinet’s protocol. This controlled approach is designed to highlight intrinsic fruit character without overpowering the clarity of the variety. Once fermentation is complete, the cherries are dried in thin layers inside parabolic dryers on the roof of Luis Anibal’s house. Drying takes 8 to 15 days with regular turning to ensure even airflow and clean development. The result is a cup with intense fruitiness, layered sweetness and a full, balanced structure.
