Tega & Tula is a classic washed Ethiopian coffee from the famous Kaffa region. This coffee has the flavours of what Ethiopian coffees are known: intense jasmine, a citric note of lemon and lime, soft grape acidity and a sugary finish.
This coffee is from the Tega & Tula Specialty Coffee Farm that is located in the Gibo district, in the Kaffee region. The farm was found by Ahadu Woubhset in 2000 and named after the two nearby villages of Tega and Tula.
Ahadu Woubhset was a founding member of the executive team at the Ethiopian Coffee Exchange (ECX). His dream was to have a farm that produces entirely specialty coffee. He finally decided to leave the ECX and started Tega & Tula Specialty Coffee Farm. Through this farm, he has been producing some delicious coffees, preserves the natural beauty of the area and supports the local community.
Tega & Tula farm is a certified organic farm that produces washed and natural process coffees. Unlike many other Ethiopian coffees, Tega & Tula farm coffees are fully traceable down to the producers, and even to the “block” or subplot in which the coffee is planted.
This coffee was planted in the “Gera” block. When he started, Ahadu renovated this block and intended for evaluating and determining best practices, and for experimentations: planting the largest coffee seeds and shaded by the avocado trees. As a result, a couple of Ethiopian varieties as planted, namely 75227 and 744.
The type known as 75227 was discovered in Gera in 1975 when researchers were looking for naturally Coffee Berry Disease–resistant plants. Its distribution started in 1981, and it grows best between 1,500–2,000 meters. Another CBD-resistant variety, 744 was released in 1979 and has been one of the most commonly distributed cultivars since its release.
