Cherries for this micro-lot were picked following strict ripeness criteria. Cherries were later pulped and exposed to 35 hours of dry fermentation. Later, the cherries were placed on raised beds for 11 days until 10% moisture content was reached.

In the middle of financial difficulties, Luis Anibal gambled by planting Geisha trees.

Luis Anibal is a second-generation coffee grower born in Acevedo, Huila. He started working on his family's farm at a young age. He is constantly innovating and experimenting with different ways to improve the quality of his coffee.

It wasn't always an easy ride. To grow his coffee production, Luis took a loan to purchase his neighbour's property. Unfortunately, the C-priced started to drop and he was forced to sell the land to pay back 40% of the loan.

In 2011, he was at risk to lose his remaining farm to the bank. He needed to improve his financial situation by working with Primaveral (Specialty Coffee Association) and started growing Geisha with the hope that it could give him the breakthrough he needed. With great care, patience and passion, the first harvest of his Geisha trees was a success. With this success, he decided to plant more exotic lot coffees on his farm.

Luis Anibal is one of the first producers in Huila to produce high-end micro-lots as well as experiment with alternative processing methods. His commitment to quality has led him to invest in infrastructure and technology, which has put his farm at the forefront of specialty coffee production in Colombia.

Geisha

Geisha is a variety of coffee that was originally collected from coffee forests in Ethiopia in the 1930s. From there, it was taken to Central America, where it was further cultivated and logged as accession T2722. The Geisha coffee plant is known for its unique flavour profile that is similar to Ethiopian coffees. However, the plant's branches were brittle and not favoured by farmers so it was not widely planted.

The coffee became popular in 2005 when the Peterson family of Boquete, Panama, entered it into the "Best of Panama" competition and auction. It received exceptionally high marks and broke the then-record price paid for green coffee beans, selling for more than $20 a pound.

There is significant confusion about Geisha because there are multiple genetically distinct plant types that are commonly referred to as "Geisha." The Geisha coffee plant is a variety of Arabica that was discovered in Ethiopia. It is characterized by its large leaves and high yields. The recent study by World Coffee Research confirms that the Panamanian Geisha descendent from T2722 is distinct and uniform.
